Case Study: Natural Disaster Relief in Haiti
Request: To provide immediate security support for a USAID post-earthquake rubble remediation project in Cité Soleil, Haiti.
Solution: OSSI mobilized a guard force of 50 personnel, including local national and international security personnel within 72 hours from time of request.
Outcome: The USAID project removed large quantities of rubble material without major security incident.
OSSI:
- Positioned international security personnel to the region prior to request, to provide on-the-ground situation awareness and capabilities.
- Screened and vetted all local security personnel prior to mobilization, through Haitian military and police databases.
- Provided pre-mobilization security training on compliance to OSSI site security Standard Operating Procedures, as well as continuous on-the-job training and evaluation.
- Deployed a personal security detail, including international and local close protection officers and armored vehicles for transportation services.
- Understood the desperate situation facing many Haitian post-earthquake and took an appropriately non-obtrusive security approach, working closely with local community leaders to assist in matters outside the scope of work of the project to portray a positive mission approach.
